Sunday night baseball

ESPN tapped Compadre to create the launch spot for the 2024 MLB season on Opening Day, built around the rallying cry "Welcome to The Show." The inspiration came from a world far from traditional sports broadcast: vibrant illustration, bold player-personality art, iconic baseball imagery, and impactful typography, the kind of work you'd see on a playoff tee or a player's hype reel, not a network promo. That energy drove the logo, a custom lockup pulling from stadium signage, scoreboards, marquee lights, and home plate, designed in multiple configurations so it could live anywhere from a full broadcast open to a digital banner. Custom illustrations, star-studded player moments, and a bespoke typography system gave the spot its swagger. ESPN came back in 2025 to evolve the Sunday Night Baseball Anthem promo, keeping the vibe and adding new cel animation elements and a cleaner end card built for digital.

The brief: make Opening Day feel like Opening Day. Loud, colorful, alive.
