eSPN virtual Coliseum

ESPN partnered with Compadre to design and build an immersive virtual set for a UFC special hosted by Daniel Cormier. The concept drew from Roman and Greek architecture (modern coliseum pillars, grand repetitive structures) blending timeless power with contemporary style to match the energy of the sport. The team developed and built within Unreal Engine, where real-time rendering handled the lighting, textures, and depth that made the space feel lived-in rather than rendered. A glowing octagon anchored the floor, flanked by marble columns and an open horizon stretching beyond the arches.

The show was filmed at Studio C on their volumetric stage, where Cormier and the broadcast team stepped directly into the virtual world, live performance and digital environment blending into a single shot. The result elevated the UFC broadcast and set a new bar for how sports storytelling can be staged.
